Israel: Arab parties support Benny Gantz to be the next prime minister

Elections

The “United List”, which brings together Arab parties in Israel, with 13 MPs, announced Sunday it would recommend the centrist Benny Gantz, whose party came first in the parliamentary elections last Tuesday, to be the next Prime Minister.

In a New York Times column, a few minutes before his appointment with the Israeli president, Arab MP list leader Ayman Odeh announced he was supporting Benny Gantz to lead the next government. A first since 1992, when five Arab deputies had allowed Yitzhak Rabin to obtain a majority before the Oslo Accords.
