A Spanish court said on Wednesday that 75-year-old Julio Iglesias was recognized as the “biological father” of a 43-year-old Spaniard, whose mother claims to have had a week-long affair with the famous singer.
The judge “has accepted the request of a Valencian of 43 years, JSS and declared that it is biological son of the singer Julio Iglesias”, announced in a release the court of first instance of Valencia (east), specifying that this decision could be appealed.
The decision is a victory for Javier Sánchez Santos, a dark-eyed brunette born in April 1976, whose first application for paternity recognition was rejected in 1999 by the Spanish Supreme Court.
Before the court that tried the case in camera, his mother, Maria Edite, a former Portuguese dancer, claimed to have had a week-long relationship with Julio Iglesias in July 1975 in Catalonia (northeastern Spain). Nine months before his son was born, according to family lawyer Fernando Osuna.
The most famous Latino crooner in the world has always refused to take a DNA test and did not show up at the trial. His lawyer, Mr. Fernando Falomir, had argued that the case had already been tried and the claimant dismissed.
The new trial was organized after an incredible episode in this highly publicized case: a detective approached one of the singer’s sons, Julio Iglesias Junior, “who was surfing” in Miami, USA, and won a bottle of water he had held in his hands to perform a DNA sample.
Mr. Osuna then assured that the analyzes had concluded that Julio Iglesias Jr. and Javier Sanchez Santos were brothers, considering that this new fact allowed the holding of another trial.
However, the court rejected this evidence and found the DNA analysis report “irrelevant and of no legal value”.
- EVIDENTAL PHYSICAL RESEMBLANCE
But even without that, the judge finally concluded that the biological father of Javier Sanchez Santos is not the one “who appears on the declaration of birth”, “and that (Julio Iglesias) is it”.
To back up his decision, he puts forward a lot of clues: the singer’s refusal to submit to the paternity test and the certainty-based on press photos-of his participation in a concert alongside Maria Edite on the 19th. July 1975, suggesting that it is “not unlikely” that they had sexual intercourse on this occasion.
The court also mentions “the obvious physical resemblance” between the forty-year-old and the singer, emphasizing that “if it is true that it could in principle be the result of chance, it would however be an excessive coincidence and very improbable “, since the date of the design of Javier Sanchez Santos corresponds approximately to the days surrounding the famous concert.
In addition, the dancer described with great precision “the location and interior design” of the house where Julio Iglesias lived during this period, the decision says.
The argument, presented in previous trials, that Maria Edite had had sex with other men during this period “does not contradict this conclusion”, but on the contrary reinforces the probability that the young woman had carnal contact. with Julio Iglesias, specifies the court.
Julio Iglesias is considered the most prolific Spanish-language artist to sell the most records in the world, 300 million according to the Guinness Book of Records.
The singer of “You Women” has married twice, with Filipino-born Spanish girl Isabel Preysler with whom she had three children, and Miranda Rijnsburger, the Dutch, his current wife, mother of five others.
But he himself has often presented himself as an unrepentant sweeper with “an obsession for sex”.
“Do not ask me how many brothers I have, I do not even know myself,” his son Julio Jr. had launched in 2018 on television.
