Campaigning for a new term at the helm of the Israeli government, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday intervened on several television channels to defend himself against the corruption charges against him.
Announced on Twitter three hours ago, this sudden intervention has cast doubt on a possible resignation of the head of government or another spectacular announcement.
Instead, Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a featureless performance in which he merely reaffirmed his innocence and said he was the victim of a witch hunt.
“I am now asking for a confrontation with the prosecution witnesses, what are they afraid of, what do they have to hide, I am not afraid and I have nothing to hide. I want it to be broadcast live so that public opinion can see and hear, “said the Prime Minister who called early parliamentary elections for April.
He will then seek a fifth term in spite of the three corruption investigations in which the police have recommended his indictment. The prosecutor’s decision is expected in the coming weeks.
