Strong fall in Vladimir Putin’s popularity

Vladimir Putin recorded a sharp drop in popularity and fell below the symbolic mark of 40% satisfied.

The Russian president has lost 9 points compared to June: according to a survey of independent Levada center, only 39% of Russians say they trust Vladimir Putin.

This is the lowest confidence rating recorded by Vladimir Putin since 2014, it was just before the annexation of Crimea which had then bounced back its popularity.

Russians’ relative disenchantment with their president comes today as a result of the highly unpopular pension reforms.

The new law increases the retirement age from 60 to 65 for men and from 55 to 60 for women.
