Taiwan: Tsai Ing-wen appoints a new PM

Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen said on Friday that he has chosen former leader of his pro-independence Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), Su Tseng-chang, as the new prime minister the day after William Lai’s resignation his entire government.

William Lai, the second head of government to resign since the start of Tsai Ing-wen’s presidency in 2016, took the decision as a result of the government’s setback in the November municipal elections.
