UNESCO loses two of its members.
The United States and Israel are no longer part of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. At issue: an organization considered not very modern and especially anti-Israeli. The decision was made a few months ago, it is effective December 31, 2018. Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, UNESCO is a place where “the deformed history instead of preserving it”.
Washington on its side does not digest the decision of UNESCO to declare the old city of Hebron, in the West Bank “protected area” World Heritage. The United States, however, should maintain its presence as a mere observer.
The two allies had already distanced themselves in 2011, stopping funding UNESCO. The agency had just welcomed a new member: Palestine.
