The Saudi-led coalition has launched an operation in the Yemeni capital Sanaa to destroy the communication networks of Shiite Houthi rebels and facilities to send drones, the Saudi public television reported on Saturday.

The operation focuses on a Houthi military base near the presidential palace in Sanaa, which Iranian-backed rebels control, as well as a large part of Yemen.

Air raids had already been carried out this month to destroy a factory manufacturing drones used by the Houthis.

Ryad and his allies support the government of Abd-Rabbou Mansour Hadi, driven out of power and capital by Shiite rebels in late 2014.
